Protecting the local environment

The Denver Mill Café Bistro team set out from the start to first understand and then look to increase sustainability and provide a safe environment for customers and staff as we progress in this wonderful new venture.

Some noted proud achievements -

  • We make most of the cakes and menu items in house and we select local suppliers who source local produce where possible.

  • We don't sell high sugar content drinks, only natural juices etc.

  • All of our coffee grounds are being used to provide soil conditioner at the same company that will be suppling most of our vegetables through out the year.

All of our peelings are also being used for composting by the same supplier.

Who is only based 200m away from the Café. So very limited food miles.

  • We have asked our local suppliers to only deliver using non diesel transport refrigeration units. To reduce local emissions.

  • We are working to reducing our energy usage by working smart in the kitchen and utilising more energy efficient machines like air fryers and replacing some of the old refrigeration units with lower energy and non HFC (PFAS) chemical gases.

  • We are reducing heat waste, with new doors being fitted and have also used chalk paint ( natural and non toxic) on some of the old interior walls to allow them to breath as they were designed to over 150 years ago.

These are just some of the simple improvements that we have taken on in a short period of time.

Our focus is still on making the Café location a safe and clean site and we do encourage people to walk or cycle to us where and when possible.

Watch out as we continue to innovate for the benefit of the environment and the local community.
